Ectropion ::


Ectropion is a medical condition in which the lower eyelid turns outwards. It is also known as Out Turning of the Eyelid. In severe ectropion, the entire length of the eyelid is turned out. When ectropion is less severe, only one segment of the eyelid sags away from the eye. Artificial tears can help relieve the symptoms caused by ectropion until you can have surgery to correct the condition.
Causes
The primary cause of ectropion is the muscle weakness or tissue relaxation that occurs as part of the normal aging process. Other are :
1. Stroke
2. Skin cancer
3. Injury
4. Scar tissue from injuries or burns
5. Facial palsy
6. Birth defects due to genetic disorders like Down syndrome
7. Prior surgery or radiation treatment of the eyelids
8. Rapid weight loss
Signs and Symptoms
- Excess tearing of the eye (epiphora)
- Dry, painful eyes
- Eyelid turns outward
- Long-term (chronic) conjunctivitis
- Keratitis
- Redness of the lid and white part of the eye
- Irritation of eye.
