APPENDICITIS ::

Appendicitis is an inflammation of the appendix, a 3 1/2-inch-long tube of tissue that extends from the large intestine. No one is absolutely certain what the function of the appendix is. One thing we do know: We can live without it, without apparent consequences.
Appendicitis is a medical emergency that requires prompt surgery to remove the appendix. Left untreated, an inflamed appendix will eventually burst, or perforate, spilling infectious materials into the abdominal cavity. This can lead to peritonitis, a serious inflammation of the abdominal cavity's lining (the peritoneum) that can be fatal unless it is treated quickly with strong antibiotics.

10 Healing Weeds That May Grow In your Backyard

1. Chickweed
Chickweed makes a nice bowl of salad and is rich in nutrients that nourish the lymph and glandular systems. It has the power to heal cysts, fever, and inflammation. It also works as a neutralizer for those with over-acidic systems and is beneficial for those with overgrowth of yeast and fatty deposits.
2. Dandelion
The often-hated dandelions can be a diuretic. They are rich in potassium which is often lost through excess urination. You can apply it externally to treat eczema and you can drink it as tea to treat arthritis and intestinal problems. Its leaves help regulate blood sugar.
3. Rosemary
According to a recent study this member of the mint family has been found to reduce risk of Alzheimer’s disease due to its carnosic acid. The oils in it have antifungal and antibacterial properties. It improves circulation in the brain so it is associated with remembrance.
4. Milkweed
Per the U.S. Department of Agriculture milkweed has been used by Native Americans as a contraceptive. You can treat and remove warts using this medicinal weed. It also contains chemicals called cardiac glycosides that may cause severe illness in humans.
5. Red Clover
Red clover weed offers the benefits of soy to menopausal women without any of the drawbacks. It’s an ingredient of traditional spring tonics that purifies and revitalizes the entire system. It has calcium and other useful compounds to treat bronchitis and other respiratory disorders.
6. Nettles
Nettles are well known for their healing properties, they provide huge benefits in arthritis, gout, asthma, hay fever, Alzheimer’s disease, and even baldness. It’s leaves contain several minerals including magnesium, calcium, iodine, and potassium. These leaves lose their sting when cooked. Try them in soup or steeped in tea. You can add them to egg dishes like any other herb.
7. Lavender
Lavender is derived from the Latin lavare which means “to wash.” It’s well loved for its fragrance, but also has anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties. It was used as an antiseptic in the Middle East, Rome, and Greece and has been used to treat anxiety, insomnia, migraines, and depression.
8. Burdock
The root of the burdock plant is useful for healing, chop the roots and steep them in hot water for 15-30 minutes to make a tea. The natural diuretic burdock root has positive effects on hypertension and may reduce the risk of stroke and heart attack. The tea can also lower blood sugar, ease PMS symptoms, and you can use it topically to treat eczema and other skin irritations.
9. Sow thistle
Sow thistle has broad leaves and yellow flowers which make it look like a brother to dandelions, its health benefits are also similar to that of dandelions. Make a tea or eat it in a salad for treating inflammation and digestive upsets. It also works as an appetite stimulant.
10. Purslane
Purslane, also known as Portulaca oleracea, makes a healthy snack. It tastes sour and has a high content of omega-3 fatty acids. Use small portions of the weed in your food, too much can spoil your dish. Purslane has been used in Chinese medicine to treat infections.

Why is Sex Sacred?

After twenty-five years of Tantric practice, the essential unity of sex and spirit seems so obvious to me that I almost forget the rest of the world doesn’t necessarily see it that way. The Sufi teacher Hazrat Inayat Khan said, "Love is the sign of Spirit," and in my mind this always included erotic love. Recently, when a friend invited me and my teaching partner to give a talk on Sacred Sexuality at his Church, I realized I would have to find a way to explain myself that would make sense to the uninitiated. Here is what I said.

Why is sex sacred? The dictionary defines sacred as "made or declared holy, dedicated or devoted exclusively to a use, purpose, or person worthy of reverence or respect." The word itself comes from the Latin, sacra meaning "sacred, holy, consecrated," that is, blessed or revered. The noun (singular) is sacrum, meaning a holy thing or place.
While patriarchal religions have defined sacred and spiritual as being separate from the body, from nature, and certainly from sex, the ancient roots of our language imply a different understanding. It is no coincidence that the word sacrum is also the anatomical term for the triangular bone at the base of the spine, the very place which Tantra tells us is the seat of the sleeping kundalini or Shakti energy. When aroused through Tantric practice, the kundalini rises up the spine to awaken the spiritual centers in the brain.

So our language suggests that once upon a time, Western Civilization understood the sacred nature of sex. This wisdom was lost during the Inquisition, in fact, one might say that this was the purpose of the Inquisition: To create a cultural shift from sex as sacred to sex as sinful, as the movie, Dangerous Beauty, beautifully demonstrates. Now it is time to return to the ancient wisdom of worshipping life rather than death. Or as we said in the sixties, "Make love, not war."

Sacred is understood differently in indigenous cultures where the concept of sacred is one of relationship rather than edict. In native cultures, humans, animals, plants, and especially the Earth herself are sacred because of we are all part of the Whole. No one and no thing have to be proven worthy to be considered sacred. All of creation is inherently sacred because it is part of the interconnected web of ecology that sustains life. In this worldview, Earth is not only seen as sacred but as a living being. Sacred is a kind of awareness, not a function of ego, of the logical mind, but more of an intuitive or direct awareness of patterns running through everything around us. This is sometimes called synchronicity, or the Tao. Here is another meaningful coincidence! It just so happens that tantric lovemaking turns on the "Right" Brain — that part of the brain that perceives patterns.

So we have two different ways of looking at the meaning of Sacred Sex which are totally complementary. Just as the love of the Mother and the love of the Father are complementary, the Western and the indigenous understanding of sacred are two sides of the same coin.

Sacred Sexuality, or Erotic Spirituality, as I prefer to call it, is a part of virtually every spiritual tradition around the world. In the last couple of decades elements of Tantra have been blended or fused with elements from Taoism, Native American, African, Christian, Pagan, and Jewish paths as a basis for re-visioning sexuality.

In the pre-Christian view, sex is sacred simply because it’s part of life. In the Christian view sex must be shown to be deserving of reverence. No problem! Here’s why it’s worthy!

  1. First, Sacred Sexuality, implies an awareness that sex is the inception of life, of all that is. Without the sexual act, none of us would exist — at least not as incarnate bodies. Sacred Sexuality acknowledges that our life force and our sexual energy originate from the same source. It’s an expression of awe and wonder that transcends any particular culture.

  2. Sex is sacred because of its role in bonding.  Mutually satisfying sexual exchanges naturally intensify bonding, but sex can take place without bonding if we’re careful to keep our hearts closed. Sex opens the heart only if we bring the energy up. The Tantric attitudes of slowing down, awakening all of the senses, tuning in to subtle energy, letting go of judgment and blame, expressing gratitude for the gift of life, and savoring the present moment are wonderfully supportive tools for intimate relating.

  3. To bond with someone is to form an enduring connection -- to feel a strong sense of mutual caring, intimacy, and appreciation. Bonding satisfies our need to belong and can occur in the absence of sex whenever a powerful shared experience creates a feeling of kinship. Not only is bonding critical to survival for many species, it supports health and happiness. People live longer and have fewer problems when they have a family-social-community context. Sex helps bring people together and keep them together. What else could motivate us to overcome the difficulties we encounter in intimate relating? Love making is more fun and more readily available than natural disasters, war, and other life threatening situations.
Erotic energy works its magic far beyond the plant and animal level as well. Look at gravity! Gravity is the name we give to the force of mutual attraction that holds the cosmos together, but spiritual teachers throughout the ages have pointed out that magnetic pull is just another name for erotic love.

  4. Sex is sacred because of its role in accessing peak experiences of love, oneness, and healing. Humans have an innate need for peak experiences of bliss, merging, and ecstasy. We have a deep longing for the (re) union of sex and spirit, for union with the Divine. When we access expanded states of consciousness through sex we validate our intuitive sense that sex can be worship and that worship can be erotic. Tantra and other paths of Erotic Spirituality teach us to embrace and honor the body as a temple of Spirit, rather than trying to deny our natural sexual impulses.
So when we bless, purify, or honor the body as part of a sexual encounter, when we bond more deeply as a result of lovemaking, or when sexual union catapults us into higher consciousness, we make sex sacred.

January

January-born people are going to be a little more conservative when it comes to actually hooking up with someone. But once they like someone, they'll be very persistent in making it happen. Those born in January have one of the kinkiest signs. You wouldn't think so, but they're right up there with November birthdays in terms of being freaky in bed.

February

February-born people are adventurers. They have a lot of passion, but you have to really work for it. Their heads are focused in causes and the bigger picture, but you really have to try to get them to connect emotionally. It's not that you can't connect emotionally, but you better be prepared to work for it.

March

March-born people love spending time in bed. Sex for them is very intense and bonded because they give their partner everything they have and often take sex to new heights of spirituality.

April

April-born people are very independent, so when they get involved with someone, they give their all. Sex with an April-born person is hot, intense, and very passionate because they're ruled by Mars, but once sex with them is over, it's really over. Their passion is huge but they often get tired of people really quickly.

May

May-born people want sex to be comfortable and sensual and warm. They love the act of sex itself. They want to make love on satin sheets in a gorgeously decorated room or not at all.

June

June-born people will want to try every position under the sun because they want to know everything about everything. They're not as intense as February-born people, but they're still intense. If you want someone to talk dirty to you, they've got you covered. If you try having phone sex with them, they will love you forever.

July

Sex with July-born people has to have a deep emotional component. They have to feel safe with someone and once they do, they will do anything to please their partner. They love to nurture people and make sure they're satisfied and have everything they need.

August

August-born people can either be extremely selfish or extremely generous. They'll want to make sure their partner has everything, or they'll sleep with someone and leave immediately. They hate being told what to do in bed, and their egos are easily bruised.

September

They're passionate but they're always in control of their emotions, so when it comes to sex, it'll take a lot to really get them to let go and have a great orgasm. They won't immediately throw themselves into sex, but if they have an emotional component there, there's nothing they won't do.

October

They want to paint a romantic, passionate picture, and tell you how it'll be and how you'll feel. Then once they tell you, they want to go very slow and make the experience last. They'll really take their time and linger and romance someone. October-born people might lack passion, but they make up for that with spot-on courting that leads up to romantic sex.

November

November-born people are the epitome of what passionate sex is. They need to possess their partners and want their partners to possess them and will make that happen. They will try every sex act imaginable just to say they've done it.

December

December-born people are very creative in bed. They love to create stories and role-play with partners. It's often hard to connect to them in a deeper way, but they'll make sex fun every single time.

The Killer (John Woo 1989)

Whilst Hard Boiled might rightly be called the pinnacle of John Woo's Hong Kong heroic bloodshed output, The Killer might in fact be his best and purest outing in the genre and the first film that really got him noticed in the West. Starring Woo regular and Hong Kong superstar Chow Yun-Fat as well as Danny Lee, The Killer is an absolute action classic and synonymous with Hong Kong cinema.

Jeff (Chow Yun-Fat) is a lone hitman who accidentally hurts a girl (Sally Yeh) during what is meant to be his last job, causing her to possibly completely lose her eyesight. If she doesn't get expensive surgery, she will be blinded forever so Jeff decides to take on one last job in order to raise the cash for her eye operation. The problem is that Inspector Li Ying (Danny Lee) has been trying to catch him for some time and is hot on his trail. And to make matters worse, Jeff is betrayed by his own Triad boss. When a child gets hurt during a shoot out between Jeff and other Triad members, Inspector Li witnesses how Jeff saves the boy and slowly a bond and mutual respect starts to develop between the two men on opposites side of the law.
The Killer perfected all of John Woo's signature heroic bloodshed stylistic trademarks: extreme use of slow motion, guys flying through the air shooting pistols from both hands, huge body counts, pure bullet ballet in over the top choreographed action sequences and themes of honor and brotherhood. A tribute to some of Woo's favourite Western directors like Jean-Pierre Melville, Martin Scorsese and Sam Peckinpah, The Killer remains a high mark of Hong Kong cinema and a prime example of a type of movie that only could have been made there during that time. The film was nominated for six Hong Kong Film Awards, winning two for Best Director and Editing. An absolute action classic.
PS If you haven't seen this film, don't watch the trailer and just watch the movie. Also, make sure not to watch the English dubbed version but the original Cantonese version instead. Just posted the dubbed trailer because it was the best quality one I could find.

Theories and Principles of Indian Temple Construction

Before we go any further, it will be worthwhile to examine the principles that guided the Hindu Temple architect and mason. How was there a proliferation of high-quality work in throughout the country? Was it a spontaneous expression of creative energy or were there some basic rules to follow, some essential unity underlying the apparent diversity?
We shall examine briefly the social, religious, metaphysical and material factors that led to the production of Indian temples.
Supremacy of the Brahmins
Since the decline of the Gupta dynasty to the age of the Mughals, there was no central political authority through most of India. This political vacuum was filled by the priestly class, who gradually assumed power as the sole arbiters of almost every aspect of life - birth, death, puberty, marriage, business and personal. All these 'favors', of course, had a price and those on whose behalf they 'generously' interceded with the gods would pay the priests by cash or in kind.
Obviously the serious business of construction was too important to be overlooked either. While the basic concepts of construction and decoration had already been evolved, it was the Brahmins who began erecting a complex edifice of rules and layouts for different classes of building. These were purposely couched in hideously complicated mumbo-jumbo - the better to be well beyond the ken of the common man or even an ordinary craftsman. A lifetime was required to study the rules and more, if possible.
These rules sometimes assumed ridiculous dimensions. The most basic acts of building were no longer to be based on technical considerations but rather on mythological ones. Thus the Vastushastra was sometimes more of a hindrance than a help to the craftsmen.
It is in this situation that the genius of the Indian Craftsman came to the fore. In a situation that could easily have been stifling, the mason and stonecutters came forth and created beauty simply by the plasticity of their sculpture and the sheer brute force of their forms. A large part of this was due to the institution of Senis or guilds, about which a brief mention has been made in a previous article.
Senis - Protectors of Heritage
As early as the 7th century B.C., Indian craftsmen had organized themselves into guilds, the better to protect their special knowledge, and to gain for themselves better working conditions, and finally to ensure a minimum standard of quality of workmanship.
In the senis, heredity was the route by which traditional knowledge was passed on through the generations. As soon as a boy was old enough to hold tools, he was set to work on a rough block of stone and so commenced his long apprenticeship. This was the father's sole gift and heirloom to his sons who in turn ensured that his name and style would live on.
A temple project would often be of such magnitude that more than one generation of master cutters and masons would be required to finish it. So a clan of stonecutters would settle around the building site for years. The temple site attracted young men hoping to learn as well as find work. Thus it became the focus of activity for miles around. Over the years, regional variations introduced for the building of a particular temple led to the evolution of a new style or 'school' of temple building, much like the gharanas that exist in Indian classical music even today. Hence we find distinct schools of art and architecture even within North Indian temple construction - the Orissan, Chalukyan, Gujarati, Kashmiri, and of course, the same situation in the temples of the south, which were further divided into many regional variations and schools of construction. In all these theVastushastra was the giver of cohesiveness, which ensured overall similarity of form and function, but also, as we have seen, was responsible for fettering the imagination of the craftsmen.
The Magic of the VastuPurushaMandala
altLooking at Hindu temples, it is not very easy to discern that they are composed of one repeating unit - the square. For God's own abode, the form had to be perfect and this limited the choice of shapes to the circle - a form without beginning and end, and the square - perfect for its symmetry. The circle had already been extensively used by the Buddhists in their Stupas and moreover, was perceived to be too dynamic a form for the resting place of the gods. For the Hindus, their gods had to be installed in buildings symbolizing unity, inertia and permanence. The square, thus, was chosen for these qualities.
altThis was the origin of the square Mandala (the best translation of this in English is 'divine chart'). The mandala was further subdivided into smaller squares in a grid, those containing 64 or 81 being the most common. Each of these smaller squares was then invested with a resident deity, each with his own special attributes and powers. The distance of the deities from the center was according to their power and perceived importance.
Thus Brahma, the creator, occupied pride of place in the center and lesser gods were relegated to the edges. A humanistic façade was given to the square by showing it to be able to accommodate a figure in a convoluted yogic posture.
Vitruvian Man - leonardo da Vinci
It is interesting to note that this idea, that of the human figure being the basis of a system of proportion, was also used in the European Renaissance by Leonardo de Vinci, and later by Le Corbusier, planner of Chandigarh in India, in his Modular system of measurement.
Thus, having acquired magical and theological properties, the VastuPurushaMandala was fit to be the basis of temple construction, with many permutations and combinations being used to achieve the final form.
Very simply, the central square could be used for the garba-griha, while the surrounding grid formed the pradakshina-path and outer wall, and so on
By increasing in complexity this system of proportion could spawn the most complex of forms with their basic unit remaining the square. It was by manipulation of this basic grid that the Indian architect created the greatest temples of India. The best examples, the glorious days of Hindu architecture, shall form the basis of our next article.

There is nothing you have to do.

Now let’s talk about you. As long as you want to become enlightened you are making a grave mistake, for there is no one to become enlightened. As long as you want to end your problems, and change your problems from bad to good, you’re making a grave mistake, for there are no problems. As long as you think there’s something wrong or there’s something right, or right overcomes wrong, and we have to try to correct the condition or situation, you’re making a grave mistake. You see, whatever has to happen has already happened.
There’s nothing you have to do, yet your body will do. Your body has absolutely nothing to do with spirituality. In other words, the relative world, the material world that you’re involved in, good or bad, rich or poor, healthy or sick, happy or sad, that world has absolutely nothing to do with spirituality. That material world doesn’t even exist. Only consciousness exists. Even though I tell you all of the time, do not be concerned over your affairs, for right actions will always take place. By right actions I mean the dharma, that which is supposed to happen.

Can your body sense future events without any external clue?

An interesting new study shows that our minds can sense future events 2-10 seconds before they take place.
This study called “Predictive Physiological Anticipation Preceding Seemingly Unpredictable Stimuli: A Meta-Analysis” shows that your mind actually has an energetic reaction to the future before it happens and before you are even aware of it.
“I like to call the phenomenon ‘anomalous anticipatory activity,'” she said. “The phenomenon is anomalous, some scientists argue, because we can’t explain it using present-day understanding about how biology works; though explanations related to recent quantum biological findings could potentially make sense. It’s anticipatory because it seems to predict future physiological changes in response to an important event without any known clues, and it’s an activity because it consists of changes in the cardiopulmonary, skin and nervous systems.”
They concluded that ” the results of this meta-analysis indicate a clear effect, but we are not at all clear about what explains it”. This is one of many mainstream scientifically stable studies that give credence to pre-sentience the psychic aspects of the mind.
The next time you have a thought about something before it actually occurs, that’s because your brain really is picking up on it energetically in a way we can measure. Is time actually non-linear?

Some life tips

1. You’re going to lose it eventually, whatever it is. Take it for granted or not. Oddly, it’s fairly momentary either way.

2. Shameless enjoyment is as spiritual as it gets.

2.1 Celebrate being consciously aware of anything at all. Anything. Anything. God. Soap. Beans. Whatever. Celebrate it. Whether you believe in the powers of words or not. Celebrate that you can know any single thing. Any one thing. ANYTHING! It’s a triumph. It’s a sheer triumph.

3. Money is helpful and rich people die everyday.

4. If you don’t like corporations, don’t buy what they sell. That’s it. That’s how you get ‘em. They cannot exist without customers.

4.1 Property is the only cause of suffering.

4.2 Attachment is biological. Liberation is philosophical. Trust all four.

5. The most practical hobby to take up is playing with sound, silence, stillness and movement using only you. No props. No special do-thingies. Just you. It is possible to enjoy this hobby everywhere on the island for the entirety of life.

6. If you are going to have children create with them. Do things with them at the edge of ignorance, the place where your knowledge and their knowledge are both open to not knowing what will happen next. This helps develop mutual respect; no one in charge of who knows what is happening and interested all the same.

6.1 Awe is open interest without preconception. To feel it, drop every thing you ever heard someone else say about you and reality. Drop every piece of information that came from anyone else, no matter what stage in life. Just drop it all.

6.2 “What is that?” is benign. Try it out and listen to what happens.

7. Pain is not a sign fear is required.

8. No matter who you love also admit you use them. It makes everything easier.

9. Don’t assume the math is something anyone understands completely and know there is a relative physiological usefulness to simply considering the large of law numbers.

10. For maximum creative buzz, apply equal parts: NO FREE WILL and NO DESTINY.

11. Don’t try to win arguments. Just make sentences you like hearing.

12. The less you own, the less owns you.

Causes of Secondary Hypertension ::

Secondary hypertension (secondary high blood pressure) is high blood pressure that's caused by another medical condition. Secondary hypertension differs from the usual type of high blood pressure (essential hypertension), which is often referred to simply as high blood pressure. Essential hypertension, also known as primary hypertension, has no clear cause and is thought to be linked to genetics, poor diet, lack of exercise and obesity.
Secondary hypertension can be caused by conditions that affect your kidneys, arteries, heart or endocrine system. Secondary hypertension can also occur during pregnancy.
Proper treatment of secondary hypertension can often control both the underlying condition and the high blood pressure, which reduces the risk of serious complications — including heart disease, kidney failure and stroke.
In about 5% of cases, the underlying causes of Hypertension is known such hypertension is called Secondary Hypertension. The commonest causes of Secondary Hypertension is renal disease. Causes of Secondary Hypertension are as follows ::
1. Alcohol
2. Obesity
3. Pregnancy (pre-eclampsia)
4. Renal disease (most common causes)
• Acute glomerulonephritis
• Chronic glomerulonephritis
• Polycystic kidney disease
• Renal tumour
• Renal artery stenosis
• Chronic pyelonephritis
5. Endocrine disease
• Phaeochromocytoma
• Cushing’s syndrome
• Primary hyperaldosteronism (Conn’s syndrome)
• Glucocorticoid-suppressible hyperaldosteronism
• Hyperparathyroidism
• Acromegaly
• Primary hypothyroidism
• Thyrotoxicosis
• Congenital adrenal hyperplasia due to 11-β-hydroxylase or 17α-hydroxylase deficiency
• Liddle’s syndrome
• 11-β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase deficiency
6. Cardiovascular causes
• Co-arctation of aorta
• Takayasu's disease

The roots of happiness

* Happiness is all around you. The general population is six times more likely to say they are happy vs. unhappy.
* Money can't buy happiness, but it does seem to help. Many higher income traits are closely associated with greater happiness, especially when considering the ways we splurge on ourselves. For example, people who buy jewelry for themselves are 23 times more likely to be happy, and those who eat at upscale restaurants and make purchases on their tablet computers also report more overall happiness.
* When it comes to employment, it's better to be unemployed than to have a job you hate. Being unsatisfied in a job is more greatly associated with unhappiness than being out of work.
* Good health goes a long way toward happiness. Those who say they are healthy are 11 times more likely to be happy, while those who report being unhealthy are 133-percent more likely to be unhappy.
* With age comes happiness. Beginning with 30- to 34-year-olds, every age group gets progressively happier than the general population, peaking among those aged 65 and older.

Women Using the Birth Control pill may be Shrinking their Brains

Oral contraceptive pills which are used to prevent pregnancy by the majority of women in the United States, contain synthetic steroid hormones --neigher genuine bioidentical estradiol nor genuine bioidentical progesterone -----that may affect the brain's structure and function.
While these studies show the hazards of these two componenets of the biirth contol pills most used by women today, the component toxic steroidal synthetics are handed out like candy to women, both Transgender and Cis Gender as part of hormone replacement therapies.
Dr. Larry Cahill, a professor of neurobiology and behavior at the University of California-Irvine and a co-author of the study, said he’s amazed at the lack of research considering how long the pill has been on the market: “You might think after 50 years and hundreds of millions of women taking various incarnations of the pill, there would be a large and cohesive and impressive body of evidence on it, but there’s next to nothing. I honestly find that amazing.”
Cahill also said that he and his fellow researchers, by challenging established assumptions (otherwise called “prejudice”), have experienced “road blocks” in trying to publish their findings, because they are often dismissed as being “alarmist.”
However, he believes that as a scientist, it’s important to continue to study the potentially good, bad or neutral effects of a medication that millions of women use for large portions of their life. He said:
“If I’m a woman on the pill, or I know a woman who’s on the pill…or I have a daughter who wants to go on the pill, you want to operate from knowledge, not from complete lack of knowledge.
In this investigation, the researcher tested the hypothesis that OC use is associated with differences in brain structure using a hypothesis-driven, surface-based approach. They found that the two main regions of the brain controlling emotion and decision-making are thinner in women who take the pill.
A study published April 2 in the journal Human Brain Mapping reports that the pill’s chemicals block the body’s natural hormones, altering the brain’s structure and function.
The study compared the cortical thickness of brain regions that participate in the salience network and the default mode network, as well as the volume of subcortical regions in these networks
In neuroscience, the default mode network (DMN) is a network of brain regions that are active when the individual is not focused on the outside world and the brain is at wakeful rest. Also called the default network, default state network, or task-negative network, the DMN is characterized by coherent neuronal oscillations at a rate lower than 0.1 Hz (one every ten seconds).
During goal-oriented activity, the DMN is deactivated and another network, the task-positive network (TPN) is activated. The DMN may correspond to task-independent introspection, or self-referential thought, while the TPN corresponds to action, and thus perhaps the DMN and TPN may be "considered elements of a single default network with anti-correlated components"
NOTE: We have posted numerous times on the extraordinary nature of the state of the art discoveries in the function and interaction of these two networks.
It was concluded that oral contraceptive use “was associated with significantly lower cortical thickness measurements in the lateral orbitofrontal cortex and the posterior cingulate cortex.”
These regions are believed to be important for responding to rewards and evaluating internal states/incoming stimuli, respectively.
The orbitofrontal cortex controls decision-making and the posterior cigulate manages emotions. And among the women studied, both of these two areas were smaller than average in those taking the pill.
Although Cahill cautioned against a panic or alarm because of the recent study, he said it raises further questions for research that are important to the millions of women who use oral contraceptives every day. For example, follow-up studies are needed to determine whether the thinning effect is permanent, or whether it just occurs if a woman is currently using the pill.
In April 2011, Cahill and three other researchers found that the emotional memory of women using hormonal contraception was more similar to that of men than of women.
Dr. Cahill said these studies are part of a growing body of research on sex differences in the brain, which is challenging the long-held assumption that men and women are mostly biologically the same, save for their reproductive organs:
“We’re all blinded by our assumptions, and there’s simply been an assumption…that any differences between (men and women) occur in the bikini zone and that’s it. And now we’re realizing, well, no. There’s sex differences all over the place. It’s important that we stop assuming that women are just men with pesky hormones.”

You can do anything you want in this life.

As long as you've got passion, faith and are willing to work hard. You can do anything you want in this life.
In order to make the most use of our lives it is important that we go into the world, and leave as big of a mark on it as we possibly can. Not just any kind of mark, but a mark that will encourage others to encourage others. A mark that will inspire others to inspire others! A mark that will inspire unity, love, peace, and hope! Every day is a new day and a new beginning, whether we realize it or not we have the ability to inspire others from across the world by just showing that we care.
It is important to go into the world and make a success for yourself, but only if you are going to use this success in order to help other people in the world succeed. Actual wealth cannot be measured by how much money or material items you may have, wealth can truly only be measured by the number of people that you helped make a positive enough impact on to succeed as well by the end of your lifetime.
