Research published today in Nature Geoscience provides new insight into the water cycle of the deep Earth, volcanic activity in the Pacific and the potential catastrophic effects when these two combine. Geologists and geochemists have had longstanding problems measuring and understanding what happens in the water below the earth because of the difficulty in sourcing authentic recent, samples. To address this, ARC Professorial Fellow Professor Simon Turner has led a team of US, French and Australian scientists to source and measure a set of very rare geological samples. "We normally study lava samples, which are an indirect source of a volcano, not the real source. In this study we were able to use source rocks from xenoliths in the Philippines, very young rocks, carrying deep water samples. They tell a more recent story of what is happening below the earth's surface." The team obtained the rocks five years before they had developed techniques precise enough to extract a result from the low-level sources. Over the last year they have used an isotopic method used only at Macquarie University and just a few other labs around the world. The U-series Research team pushed the capabilities of uranium series techniques, and their results tell a story of the subterranean ocean moving in two directions: up to the surface through mantle plumes and down, beyond volcanic arc fronts and carrying into the deep mantle of the core of the earth. It is this second aspect that has catastrophic potential. When the water goes further into the earth, it may become stored in mantle materials at depth. As these become heated they can rise as mantle plumes and erupt in large volcanic provinces, emitting voluminous aerosols powerful enough to change earth. This discovery provides a new perspective on earlier catastrophic events, including the Deccan Traps of million years ago in India, when volcanic gases were released, resulting in mass extinction. Turner hopes this research will help to understand events like the Deccan Traps and be better prepared for future events. Editor's Note: Original news release can be found here. |

Global warming beats land-use change
| THE UNIVERSITY OF NEW SOUTH WALES |
Changes in snow and rain caused by global warming dominate the effects of land-use change on regional climates, according to a new study in the journal Nature Climate Change. The study by a team led by Professor Andy Pitman, of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Climate System Science, found that land-use and land-cover changes tend to act as regional cooling mechanisms at mid to high latitudes but amplify warming in tropical regions. The Centre is hosted by the UNSW Faculty of Science. However, it also found that larger climate change influences – particularly changes in regional precipitation caused by global warming - could override or significantly alter the size of those effects. The findings are mostly significant for improving climate models, says Professor Pitman, a senior member of the UNSW Climate Change Research Centre. The research team also includes researchers from the CSIRO Centre for Australian Weather and Climate Research and the Laboratoire des Sciences du Climat et de l’Environnement, in France. “This paper not only showed the influence of land use on regional climate, it emphasised exactly why we need to improve the way precipitation is represented in climate models,” Professor Pitman says. “Currently we can show precipitation changes at global and continental level but projecting changes in precipitation down to regional scales as the planet warms remains one of the great challenges for climate researchers. “Until we can accurately project this it will be difficult to determine exactly how much land-use and land-cover change amplifies or potentially reduces the regional effects of global warming.” Regional precipitation is particularly difficult to project because of the lengthy chain of inter-related processes that occur within and outside these smaller areas to bring about rainfall, he says. Substantial, sustained research across a broad range of scientific disciplines is needed to meet this challenge. “The Centre of Excellence for Climate System Science has been created to tackle exactly this kind of complex, long-term research,” he says. “The extensive effort required to deliver foundation climate science of this nature is often limited due to the scale of expertise required – this is beyond the capacity of most single institutions. “By bringing together a consortium of five universities along with major national and international partner organisations, the Centre has the capacity to take on this difficult and important research to strengthen and improve the building blocks of climate modelling. “It is difficult research but it will have a direct impact on how Australian communities can prepare and adapt to the future challenges of climate change.” Editor's Note: Original news release can be found here. |
Less emissions from rebuilt tools
| MARION LOPEZ, SCIENCENETWORK WA |
A Curtin study has revealed re-manufactured refrigeration and air conditioning compressors produce up to 93 per cent less greenhouse gas emissions than new original equipment manufactured (OEM) compressors. Led by the Director of the Centre of Excellence in Cleaner Production, Associate Professor Michele Rosano, the research makes a case for the market development of re-manufactured compressors as a more sustainable alternative to traditional OEMs. According to A/Prof Rosano, switching to re-manufacturing would diminish the production of new OEM compressors, therefore avoiding the release of 1,590kg of CO2 emissions. “The replacement of a new OEM compressor with a re-manufactured one can mitigate about 1,470kg of CO2 emissions, which is similar to the greenhouse gas emissions from 1.56MW/h of electricity generation in WA, and 1.71MW/h in Queensland and NSW,” she says. “This electricity generation would meet the average electricity demand of an Australian household for three-and-a-half months.” A/Prof Rosano says the results highlight the importance of re-manufacturing in reducing not only the resource intensity and carbon footprint, but also the cost associated with the purchase of a new compressor. “If the carbon price was set at $50 per tonne of CO2 emissions, a new OEM compressor would cost $79.50 and a re-manufactured compressor only $5.85.” A/Prof Rosano’s team has been working in partnership with Recom Engineering, leader in the re-manufacture compressor marketplace, for about three years to try to get industries to make the change. However, Director of Recom Engineering Mr Peter Frey says his business has been around for 30 years and is still struggling to reach large industries such as Coles and Caterpillar. He believes re-manufacturing would thrive a lot more if the middle-men weren’t part of the deal. “Re-manufactured compressors work as good and as long as OEM ones, cost half the price of a new compressor and come with a two-year warranty so there are no reasons why industries wouldn’t want to shift to re-manufactured compressors,” he says. “The problem we have is convincing the service companies we deal with to agree to supply their clients with re-manufactured compressors. “Because they cost less, service companies are keener to sell new OEMs to get a better margin, especially in these hard economic times.” However, Mr Frey says re-manufacturing could soon become industries’ first choice thanks to Sustainable Energy Australia (SEA)’s Director, Professor Ray Wills. Promoting any enterprise that looks at reducing carbon emissions, Prof Wills says the need to demonstrate to government agencies and industries that re-manufactured compressors are as viable and reliable as research and precedent have shown is crucial to reverse the current market tendency of rejecting re-manufacturing goods. Shibpur Shirdi Saibaba Temple -Where Miracles do happen
The author is Priyanka Rautela
My last post was in January this year, its considerably long gap but nonetheless I was always dedicated towards Saiseva, will write in detail soon as what all seva I am doing and maybe you all can also join me for making this world more beautiful to live.I believe that we should follow this -
"Do all the good you can, in all the ways you can, to all the souls you can, in every place you can, at all the times you can, with all the zeal you can, as long as ever you can”
My today's post is amazing in its own way, by the grace of our father Sai ,today I am posting each and every detail of Shibpur temple ,along with many very recent Sai Leela's whiles publishing this post I am very happy , thrilled and speechless, before going too far I would like to thank Sowmya Hebbar sister , without her I could never publish a wonderfully informative post like this for all Sai devotees .
Now I am attaching Sowmya sister's mail first on the history of Shibpur temple :
Hi all,
I want to share with all Sai devotees the Shibpur Sai Baba temple, Westbengal, definitely, you all will love Baba here. Baba's Murthy is very beautiful.I have attached the photo. Still, I haven't been to this temple but have a great desire to visit. It appears as if Baba is really sitting, and smiling at us..
love u deva.
Temple is in Shibpur,, Nadia district in West Bengal.
Amit Biswas had a dream of Sai Baba. Sai Baba ordered him to construct this temple and Baba said that he will arrange all means to get this temple constructed. He narrated like this, "I saw in my dreams a bright illumination of lights as if thousand and thousands of neon lamps were lit. I was bewildered. Then I heard a voice saying I am Sai Baba. Your great grandfather used to worship me in this temple every day for hours together. I was very happy with him. After his demise, there is no puja. The place has become a jungle. I am longing for devotion and Puja here once again." Then Sai Baba said these things in the dream -
1. I order you to construct my temple and offer me puja every day.
2. Whoever stands near this Neem tree will feel my presence here. The Tree will remove all his sins.
3. For the construction of this temple, I will be present to perform my work. The temple construction work should not stop.
4. None other than my Real Devotee will be able to donate for this temple.
5. Whoever comes to this temple with full devotion and have my darshan will get all his/her wishes fulfilled.
Amit said that Sai Baba told many more things in this dream but he cannot make them public.
Many temples of Sai Baba came up with the blessing of Baba and due to the donations by devotees. But this is the only temple which is getting constructed in a big way by the ORDER given by Sai Baba.
Amit ji used to tell me that baba idol is same what he saw in dream.. and it has one story too :-
A national award winner and a famous sculptor Subir Paul could not sit idle after hearing the activities of the Sai Sadguru Samity. Inspired, the sculptor constructed a human seize fibre-glass idol of the Baba. Paul himself admitted that while making the idol for six months some miraculous spirit grappled him. never made such perfect structure like Sai Baba before
Way back in 1850, Ramdas Biswas a wealthy villager of Shibpur village of Nadiaï ½s Nakashipara established a temple in the compound of his house to offer daily puja in it. He never took any help from anybody but set up the temple on his own cost. Past facts did not establish whether Ramdas set up any idol of Shirdi Sai Baba as he was alive then. But so far the information are available, the daily prayer was stopped in the temple of 1920. The reason behind it is hitherto unknown. The prayer stopped and the temple slowly became the birthplace of a venomous snake with dense bush and cobwebs surrounding it. Forget offering prayer, local residents dared not to go anywhere near to the temple site fearing snakes would take their lives. However, as lights follow the darkness, a rainbow follows rain; villagers of Shibpur in 1992 saw a neem tree sprouting out of the dense bush adjoining the crumbling structure of the temple.
What made them more surprised that deadly snakes also stated fleeing after the neem tree was born there. With snakes making exit, villagers started cleaning up a part of the bush and a greenfield was born there with children began playing near to it. A way to enter the temple was also found thereafter.
Believe it or not, within days Sai Babas promise started becoming true. After offering puja in the temple, though dilapidated, a woman gave birth to her first baby after 12 years of her marriage. The doctor had predicted that she could not give birth to medically. She is not alone, some villagers, who were suffering from chronic and incurable diseases, got cured after offering prayer to Saibaba in the temple. Stunned villagers stood up and took a resolution that they would protect the temple at any cost.
In 2003, advised by the local villagers, Amit formed a trustee committee to rebuild the temple. Nadia-Shibpur-Sai-Sadguru Samity was formed thereafter. The resolution the committee took was that a new structure of the temple would be made and the trustee board would work for the amelioration of the poor people in the area. They also took an oath that the organization would work for all social causes like campaigning against dowry, drug addiction of students. The committee then began working according to their resolution and campaigned extensively against dowry, child marriage, drug addiction etc etc. Worthy to mention, the villagers also started getting success. Their achievements began spreading like wildfire in the villages of Nakashipara and out of it. I never made such perfect structure like Sai Baba before,½ he said. Getting the idol quite unexpectedly, the committee thus could not sit idle too. Although not financially equipped, but the villagers began constructing the temple. They put together bamboos and erected a structure in the temple areas keeping the old structure intact. The idol seated on a golden chariot has been kept under the thatched temple now in place.
Currently, the devotees offer their daily pujas, arti and bhajan, two times daily. Trustee committee has recently begun collecting subscription from the people of all walks of lives to build up the permanent concrete structure. The committee has also begun celebrating Sai festival for five days in the third week of April every year. Once the permanent structure will be in place, corers of people would visit the temple and their woes would get healed. The hands thus are stretched for help from anybody who wants to cure the woes of the people.
Miracles happening in shibpur temple
Miracle No.1
*Sometimes in Sept 2009, a PWD Engineer's wife called up the President of this temple Amit Biswas. She told him that she has a happy married life but this life seems to be vacant without a child. They are married for 10 years now without an issue. The couple had visited many doctors and have taken all the medical help required but of no use. One day while coming in a vehicle she has seen Sai Baba's picture in a shop. She asked Amit whether she can have a darshan of Sai Baba and offer puja to HIM. Amit invited them to the temple to offer Puja to Sai Baba. When she had the darshan of Baba she cried bitterly before Baba and prayed for a child. Baba blessed him with a beautiful child 10 years after their marriage.
Miracle No.2
*Guddu Gurung and Saina Guru are from Nepal. They are working in this village as a watchman. They were childless. One by one four children died before their birth. Doctor's said that Saina had some internal problem in the ovary and she was not able to bear a child. They consulted many doctors, finally went to Vellore for treatment. But still no cure. Finally, they got a beautiful daughter after offering Puja to Sai Baba in Sibpur temple.
Miracle No.3
*One day the daughter of the priest of the temple saw that her lower portion of the face has been blackened. There were black spots on this part of the face. The priest was worried. He did not consult any doctor. Rather with full faith and devotion, he smeared Baba's Udi on her daughter's face and prayed to Baba to remove these black spots from her daughter's face. Miraculously after 7 days, these black spots vanished on its own and the girl looked normal like before.
Miracle No.4
*A child was born to a couple after 14 years of their marriage after offering Puja to Sai Baba at Sibpur temple.
One day a devotee came for Baba’s darshan. He had severe stomach pain for quite a few days. The pain was so much that it was impossible for him to sit in this temple. With great devotion, he prayed to Baba and took His UDI mixed in water. Within minuted, the stomach pain vanished and he never felt that pain any more.
Miracle No.5
*There was one Sai devotee who lives in a nearby village called Gopinathpur. He had paralysis. He could not move his limbs. He consulted many doctors, took physiotherapy courses but of no use. With great difficulty and full devotion, this devotee paid darshan to Sai Baba at Sibpur temple. On his return slowly his paralysis was gone and now he can run and walk like normal humans.
*A devotee named Sunil Das had a 16 days old son. Suddenly this child stopped taking any type of food and was continuously crying. This went on for 3 days with no food and continuous crying and shivering. Doctor's medicine failed to cure this child. Finally, they brought this child to Sai Baba, laid him near Baba's seat and the priest touched the child's head taking Baba's name and applied Udi on his forehead. He child immediately stopped crying and was rather smiling. He drank the entire bottle of milk in from of everyone present there and started behaving normally.
Miracle No.7
*An old devotee of Sai Baba named Tarit Pal had a daughter who had her face paralysed. Tarot took her daughter to many doctors but none could cure her. Finally, Tarit started bringing his daughter to Sai Baba's temple every day and applied Baba's Udi on that portion of her face which was paralysed. Slowly her paralysis was gone and recovered completely by the grace of Baba when all medical sciences failed.
Miracle No.8
*There are many instances in this village where girls get married after offering Puja to Sai Baba at Sibpur temple.
Balai Ghosh of Krishnanagar was in deep poverty. He did not have the money to meet the basic means. He tried to get a job but could not succeed. He was totally frustrated and decided to end his life. Suddenly he got an inner message that if he donates Rs. 500/- to Sai Baba temple in Sibpur his bad days will come to an end. This poor fellow now has nothing left with him save his bicycle. He decided to sell of this bicycle for Rs. 500 and donate this amount to Baba as dakshina. He sold the bicycle for Rs. 500/-, went to Sai Baba temple a Sibpur and kept Rs. 500/- at Sai Babas feet and returned home. After exactly seven days a distant relative of Balai came to meet him. Balai has never seen this relative. He offered Balai to join him in his business as a partner. Balai need not to invest any capital for this. This relative of Balai had a business of manufacturing and repairing batteries. The business grew well. After one year Balai decided to find out how much money he could profit from this business. His banker told him that he has made a profit of Rs. 5 lakhs in one year. This is the chamatkar of Baba. Baba has turned this beggar to a rich man today. Balai offered Rs. 500/- to Baba and Baba returned him 1000 times that money to him.
At least 3 to 4 devotees told me that they have seen at midnight between 2 Am to 2:30 AM that a round ball-shaped object, brightly illuminated swayed between the top of the Neem tree to the top of the temple. This ball swayed 2 to 3 times and then suddenly vanished.
Miracle No.9
Once during the evening, Aarati was going on in the temple. The President of the Shibpur Sai Baba temple Amit Biswas looked outside the temple and saw Sai Baba wearing his dhoti, kurta and Kafni madly dancing to the tune of Kirtan. Sai Baba was dancing till the Kirtan was going on and then suddenly vanished. This incident was told to me By Amit Biswas himself.
*A lady suddenly discovered that her husband was having an illicit relationship with a neighbourhood girl. She never expected this thing to happen after 15 years of their marriage. The husband was not interested to stay with her any more and used to quarrel. The lady was morose and cried. She went to Sai Baba and prayed to him to return her husband back to her. If her husband comes back to her snapping all relationship with the girl then the lady promised to offer Payasam to Baba. After one month she got her husband back. He has snapped all relationship with the neighbourhood girl.
Miracle No.10
*The temple is getting built with the donation of Sai devotees. One great Sai Baba devotee Shri K V Ramani donated huge sum during the start of the temple. One day it so happened that the ceiling work has to be done the next day and Rs. 5000/- was required to be paid to the masons. If the masons do not get the money they will not work. That night not a single penny was there with the temple authorities. They were worried about how to resume the temple work the next day. From where to arrange Rs.5000/-. They kept faith in Baba and went to sleep. Next day morning a person came with his family to have darshan of Baba at the Shibpur temple. He has come from Dubai and heard about this Sai Baba temple from a friend in Kolkata. He paid darshan to Baba and did Puja. Then he signed a cheque of Rs. 5001/- and gave to the temple authorities as dakhina to Baba. When Baba is there why take tensions on your head! Such is the leela of Baba.
Miracle No.11
*Cows in the village suffering from Anthrax gets cured after drinking water mixed with Baba's udi. A cow gave birth to a calf after 6 years when udi was smeared on his head and udi mixed in water was offered to the cow.
Every year during the annual festival of Sai Baba temple at Sibpur a gentleman Samir Bhattacharjee takes the responsibility of arranging food for 10,000 people at the congregation. Last year this person was ill. He had open-heart surgery and was not in a position to take this huge responsibility. The temple authorities thought of celebrating the festival in a small way this year. Somehow at the last minute the temple President Amit Biswas appealed to the devotees to contribute whatever they can for the feast. Suddenly a huge gathering of people came with rice, pulses and vegetables. They came with so much of these items that not only 10,000 people were fed but many took the food items home as prasadam. Baba is omnipotent and omnipresent. It is difficult to understand his leelas!
Miracle No.12
Miracle No.13
*Besides these so many other miraculous activities happened in the Sai Temple of Shibpur consistently such as one Dharani Dhar Mondal of Shibpur was attacked with cerebral and was thrown into Coma when the relatives are waiting the doorsteps of his death but miraculously alive by touching the UDI of Sai Baba on the forehead and mouth within three days he is walking independently and being present himself in the Sai Temple daily.
Miracle No.14
*One Sri Santu Mondal a student of Class XI who was attacked with facial infection and continuing medical treatment since six months continuously but getting no remedy he came to the Sai Temple of Shibpur and after having UDI of Sai Baba he has been free from such infection within seven days miraculously and so on almost every day.
during sai festival last year...
Miracle activities in case of four mothers who gave birth their child by the blessings of Shirdi Sai Baba and they have given sweets as per weight of each of their child and after worship they have distributed amongst the participants in the temple.
an woman of 75 years namely Smt. Kamala Bala Joardar who has been suffering from acute leprosy in the third stage of her suffering and the doctor Arijit Mukherjee Nadia District Hospital returned her after completion of dosage of MDT for 12 months and the said patient only taking of Sai Baba Prasadam daily with the mixing of dust from the Sai temple consistently for 12 months and become the result after ending of 12 months the patient Smt. Kamala Bala Joardar is now miraculously cured by the blessings of Shirdi Sai Baba not only cured but also the aforesaid patient after receipt of miraculous result she began to dancing in the Sai festival and procession.
Miracle No.15
* 20 days back a boy had injury in his eye.. a fibre piece was struct in boy's eye.. parents took him hospital(it was supposed to be best eye hospital in calcutta). they gave treatment for 15 days and no improvement in boy's condition.. they said his eye is fully damaged. boy will be not be able to see in future.. his mother was very upset.. she came to shibpur temple and started crying infront of his baba.. and asked amit ji to request baba to save the boy..
Amit ji prayed infront of baba and gave prasad.. yesterday they came to temple with fruits to thank baba..as boy's eye is back and he is able to see.. how kind is our baba is..
baba's leela is beautiful.
Miracle No.16
*some time back.. a elderly person came and bow before amitji in early morning 4 am.. amit ji was shocked.. he asked why he is bowing to him.. instead.. amit ji should bow to him.. as he is younger to him.. so that elder person started explaining his dream..
"Amit ji was wearing long kafni and dotti.. he is holing satka in right hand and kamandalu in left hand and standing in middle of the sea with baba sitting infront of him.. both are conversing and baba kept his hand on amit ji".. so elder person said to amit ji that .. amit ji is blessed by SAI
This was all about the Shibpur Sai Baba temple, how can I forget to thank sister Sowmya once again for her best because of her today I made this long long wonderful post.If anyone of you also has such a piece of information about any Sai temple (big or small) ,Sai leela's or anything related to Baba then kindly sends me on my mail.

INCREDIBLE Photos show Moment Tower Block is Reduced to Rubble
By DAILY MAIL REPORTER
This was the spectacular moment a 17-storey concrete tower block was blown to pieces - in a thundering controlled explosion.
Glencairn Tower block was reduced to 12,000 tonnes of rubble by 55kg of explosives, as council bosses blasted away almost 50 years of memories.Thousands of spectators - many of whom were once residents of the massive tower block - watched from an exclusion zone set up around the high-rise.
Hundreds more viewed the action from the safety of their homes in nearby towers as the residential building, opened 1964, was destroyed. Colin Campbell, a former tenant of the block in Motherwell, Scotland, said: 'It's been a nostalgic and emotional day for myself and probably for a number of local people.
'Having lived in and grown up in the tower I have many fond memories of the building, particularly as my dad was one of the caretakers there. It was spectacular to see and I'm sure the new houses planned for the tower site will make a positive difference to the local area.'
Glencairn Tower was once the largest of North Lanarkshire's 49 multi-storey towers.

Going! Carefully timed explosions are sett off at key points in the building and the huge structure begins to crumble
Going: The massive block, originally opened in 1964, appears to fold into itself as comes crashing to the ground
Gone: The sprawling building comes tumbling down shrouded in a cloud of dust
Aftermath: the sprawling block has been reduced to a pile of rubble. Thousands of spectators - many of whom were once residents of the massive tower block - watched from an exclusion zone
Its demolition was carried out by Technical Demolition Services (TDS) with support from Precision Demolition Company.
Cllr Barry McCulloch, convener of housing and social work services on North Lanarkshire Council, hailed the demolition as a success, saying: 'Our aim was to ensure the tower was demolished safely and with minimum disruption to local residents and businesses during this process and today's successful demolition achieved that.
'I now look forward to the site making way for our new homes as part of our £75 million 'Building for the Future' investment and regenerating Motherwell town centre.'

Bridge Below the Water Surface
The original bridge below the water surface
Original way, not an easy task decide Dutch architects. During the reconstruction of the XVII century fort on them needed to throw a pedestrian bridge over a water-filled moat, but do it in such a way that it was practically invisible. The transition has been decided to erect a wooden tunnel submerged in water. Blenheim Palace
Blenheim Palace is a monumental country house situated in Woodstock, Oxfordshire, England, residence of the dukes of Marlborough. It is the only non-royal non-episcopal country house in England to hold the title of palace. The palace, one of England's largest houses, was built between 1705 and circa 1724. UNESCO recognised the palace as a World Heritage Site in 1987.
Its construction was originally intended to be a gift to John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough from a grateful nation in return for military triumph against the French and Bavarians at the Battle of Blenheim. However, it soon became the subject of political infighting, which led to Marlborough's exile, the fall from power of his duchess, and irreparable damage to the reputation of the architect Sir John Vanbrugh.
Designed in the rare, and short-lived, English Baroque style, architectural appreciation of the palace is as divided today as it was in the 1720s.[2] It is unique in its combined usage as a family home, mausoleum and national monument. The palace is also notable as the birthplace and ancestral home of Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill.
The building of the palace was a minefield of political intrigue by Sarah Churchill, Duchess of Marlborough. Following the palace's completion, it became the home of the Churchill family for the following 300 years, and various members of the family have in that period brought various changes, in the interiors, park and gardens. At the end of the 19th century, the palace and the Churchills were saved from ruin by an American marriage. Thus, the exterior of the palace remains in good repair and exactly as completed.
