Often, the decision to commit suicide is influenced by
several factors that overlap and reinforce each other. Often, it is also
impossible to establish for what reason a person took his/her life. Risk
factors for suicidal behaviour can be divided into clinical, social and
psychological factors.
Suicide: Clinical Factors
Do suicides have a mental illness? Many people ask this
question, which is often true, but not always. According to Polish police
statistics, the two most common causes of suicide are family disagreements and
mental illness.
Depression
The mental illness that affects the risk of suicide the most
is depression. It is estimated that two-thirds of suicides suffer from
depression, and about 15% of people with depression decide to end their lives.
Patients who also have insomnia are at greater risk.
Contrary to appearances, the most severe depression does not
mean the most significant risk of taking your life. You need some determination
and energy to kill yourself. Patients with intense depression, having no
strength for anything, also do not have the power to commit suicide. Therefore,
a more significant risk may be when a person is beginning to recover from
depression theoretically. People who have recently been diagnosed with
depression are also at greater risk. People who struggle with this disease for longer
learn to live with it and less often decide to end their lives.
Schizophrenia
The risk of committing suicide is exceptionally high in
patients who suffer from persistent auditory hallucinations. Sometimes such
persons still hear “voices” telling them to kill themselves and eventually
succumb to these commands. However, even if the “voices” do not command
suicide, they can be challenging to deal with, and sometimes suicide seems to the
patient the only escape.
As with depression, those recently diagnosed with the
disease are at greater risk than those with schizophrenia for many years.
Moreover, schizophrenia is often accompanied by depression, which may be an
additional risk factor.
Addiction
At least one-third of suicides abuse psychoactive
substances. The most common addiction is alcoholism, and suicides are often
committed under the influence of this substance. The relationship between
alcoholism and the risk of suicide is not straightforward. Alcohol can
indirectly affect the risk of suicide by causing family conflict and loss of
support from loved ones. Still, the cognitive and physiological changes caused
by long-term alcohol abuse may also play a role. Alcoholics who commit suicide
often lose an essential person shortly before their death or have experienced
an interpersonal conflict or other personal crisis.
Personality disorders
Personality disorders approximately seven times increase the
risk of taking one’s own life. People with borderline personality disorder,
characterized by, e.g. impulsiveness, frequent feeling of emptiness, fear of
abandonment, and extreme and ambivalent emotions, are at particular risk.
Suicide: Social Factors
Human, as social being, needs support and close
relationships. This is especially true when he experiences difficulties in
life. People who have whom to turn to in stressful and difficult situations and
know that they are not alone with their problems cope better and are less
likely to say that the only way out is death.
As I mentioned above, crises in social relations, such as
family conflicts, are among the most common causes of suicide. The loss of a
loved one may also lead to such an act. The more a man depended on the person
he/she lost and the less support other people provided him/her, the greater the
risk of suicide.
Suicide: Psychological Factors
Edwin Shneidman distinguished ten commonalities in suicides:
Seek a solution – Suicides often find themselves in
situations they cannot solve. The only option seems to be suicide. Therefore,
shortly before taking his life, a suicide often feels calm and improves his
mood. After all, he no longer has to worry about how to get out of his problems;
he has found a solution …
Cessation of consciousness – A person who commits suicide
escapes from problems and mental pain, guilt, or other challenging emotions.
Intolerable psychological pain – According to Shneidman,
intolerable psychological pain is the pain of feeling pain. It’s an
overwhelming emotion for which there is no cure, and sometimes suicide seems
like the only cure that can relieve suffering.
Frustrated psychological needs – One of the causes of
suicide is unmet needs, such as love, understanding, and achievement. An unmet
need for achievement can be especially true of perfectionists. This trait is
often associated with suicidal ideation because perfectionists find living up
to their own expectations challenging.
Some individuals may feel ashamed of their inability to ask
for help, leading them to expect their partner to anticipate their needs and
then blame them when they don't. This behaviour can be attributed to the desire
to avoid feeling inadequate and shameful, whether due to an inability to
request assistance or even needing it. Redirected shame can often cause anger
and fear, making it difficult for individuals to ask for help.
Many clients struggle with asking for help and may feel
entitled to it. However, this entitlement can distract them from acknowledging
their limitations and lead them to expect others to meet their needs. Female
clients may become frustrated with their spouses for not understanding their
needs, as they may have experienced their fathers doing so. Asking for help can
feel daunting and risky, leading individuals to fear rejection. Seeing their
partner as a threat, they may transfer their shame onto them, playing a game of
emotional hot potato.
On the other hand, many male clients may feel that needing
help is a sign of weakness, and they may associate shame with accepting help.
They may feel that admitting a need for help is admitting defeat, and it can be
challenging for them to acknowledge their limitations. Their masculinity may be
tied to being independent and solving their problems independently.
Many people fear needing others and try to control and
manipulate situations to meet their needs. They may seek treatment to improve
themselves rather than become more comfortable with vulnerability. Self-love is
cultivated through acceptance, and therapy can help replace judgment and shame
with empathy and feedback.
It's important to acknowledge and accept our flaws and
limitations and to seek help when needed. It's essential to have a community of
people who love and accept us for who we are, our flaws and all. We don't have
to be perfect; not everyone will tolerate our imperfections, but some will, and
that's what matters. Believing that we are unlovable due to our weaknesses is a
flawed belief that can lead to isolation and despair.

Eye tracking is a sensor technology that can detect a person’s presence and follow what they are looking at in real-time. The technology converts eye movements into a data stream that contains information such as pupil position, the gaze vector for each eye, and gaze point. Essentially, the technology decodes eye movements and translates them into insights that can be used in a wide range of applications or as an additional input modality.
How eye tracking works
Typically, an eye tracking system comprises one or more cameras, some light sources, and computing capabilities. Algorithms translate the camera feed into data points with the help of machine learning and advanced image processing.
How the human brain is capable of sorting through an avalanche of external stimuli—most of which never reach the human consciousness—to create a sense of awareness of the individual's surroundings.
UsIing a combination of artificial intelligence, mathematics, and a close examination of the eye movements of individuals as they were shown images of people's faces, researchers found that important clues are revealed in the eyes.
When people were shown clear images, their eye movements showed a distinct pattern that indicates they were aware of their surroundings. However, as the subjects were presented with progressively dimmer images of faces, the pattern of eye movement changed. Tracking these changes allowed researchers to discern whether the subjects actually perceived the face or not without asking them.

The eye-tracking tool allowed researchers to explore the amorphous dividing line between consciousness and unconsciousness, a state most obvious as we awake from sleep. People become progressively more aware of their surroundings as slumber recedes, a process that is controlled in a region of the brain known as the thalamus.
They found that when people awake the thalamus discharges a brief pulse which jumpstarts the transition to consciousness. However, this activity is only a first step in a series of actions throughout the brain that leads to full awareness, they found. For instance, that initial pulse from the thalamus may fail to activate other neural networks, keeping the individual unconscious of most surrounding stimuli. However, the pulse can also activate neurons involved in processing visual cues in the frontal cortex, which in turn amplifies circuits involved in arousal and attention. At the same time, signals irrelevant to the event are turned off. tool allowed researchers to explore the amorphous dividing line between consciousness and unconsciousness, a state most obvious as we awake from sleep. Dietrich Bonhoeffer was a Lutheran
pastor and theologian in Germany during World War II. He was hanged in a
concentration camp at Flossen burg because of his opposition to the Nazis and
for that part, he played in an assassination plot against Hitler.
In prison, he began to try to understand how good, intelligent,
and peaceful people could become supporters of such an evil regime. That led to
his theory that the greatest opponent to truth and reason was not evil, but
stupidity.
“If we want to know how to get the better
of stupidity, we must seek to understand its nature.” — Dietrich Bonhoeffer
“If we want to know how to get the better
of stupidity, we must seek to understand its nature,” wrote Bonhoeffer in his
treatise. And the nature of stupidity has its roots deep in the subconscious. The
fundamental mechanics of the human experience drives it. As ancient
philosophers noted, humans are social animals. It is this very sociability that
is at the base of stupidity.
“We note further that people who have isolated
themselves from others or live in solitude manifest this defect less frequently
than individuals or groups inclined or condemned to sociability. And so it
would seem that stupidity is perhaps less psychological than a sociological problem.”
— Dietrich Bonhoeffer
Stupidity is a group phenomenon. An
individual can act stupidly, but that does not affect the whole. However, when
a group works stupidly, that dramatically impacts the individual, compounding
the entire effect. In many ways, something with initially positive
ramifications stabbed humanity in the back.
Human nature doesn’t change as the years
pass by. The inner workings of individual people are the same as those of their
remote ancestors living on the savannas of Africa 50 thousand years ago. Some
of these internal processes stretch even further back, millions of years into
the past, when primitive brains started to develop.
When you speak with a stupid person, it does not seem like that
person is speaking from their own heart or mind but in catchphrases and slogans
adopted from others. Stupidity, to Bonhoeffer, originates when people give up
their independent thinking and parrot the words and phrases of the rising power
movement. They “jumped on the bandwagon” and ceased thinking independently. He
observed that stupidity was found less among isolated people and more in social
groups. As you reflect on the evening news and its daily presentation of people
doing crazy things to others, consider that they may not be evil or malicious,
but rather, stupid.
Italian economic historian Carlo M. Cipolla believes so. In his book 'The Basic Laws of Human Stupidity', Cipolla identifies four different kinds of people – stupid people, helpless people, intelligent people, and bandits.
As a group, stupid people are far more powerful than the Mafia and the Military-Industrial Complex because they actually drive and influence social outcomes.
Cipolla found that the same proportion of people in any group tended to be stupid, even within the group of Nobel laureates or professors, or even blue-collar workers. The reality is that we have to face the same proportion of stupid people, no matter where we go or travel.
Everyone underestimates the effects of stupid people in action because it is not apparent. As a result, non-stupid people underestimate the damaging power of stupid people.
Intelligent people benefit themselves and society; bandits steal from others to benefit themselves; helpless people are exploited for their naivety despite contributing positively to society. However, stupid people are counterproductive to both their own individual and society's overall interests.
Cipolla says that a stupid person is far more dangerous, especially if the individual was born into the elite class. Their total damage capacity is infinite within their potential position as bureaucrats, generals, and even politicians.
As stated by Yuval Harari, history teaches us that people must never underestimate the role of stupidity in human history. It is one of the most powerful forces around the world.
We cannot trust human decency and supposedly good human leadership to do what is best for humanity. We can only hope that is the case, but stupid humans could win at the end of the day.
Little is known about how social behavior develops in the earliest stages of life. But most animals––including humans––are born with an innate ability to interact socially or form bonds with others. And that contributes to success throughout life.
Now, a new animal study points to a gene that is important for the earliest development of basic social behaviors.
The work also suggests that exposure to certain drugs and environmental risk factors during embryonic development can cause changes to this gene, leading to alterations in social behavior that are similar to those found in individuals who have autism. Much to their surprise, the researchers also found they could reverse some of the effects using an experimental drug. http://sciencemission.com/site/index.php?page=news...
The Law of Reversed Effort was first coined by the author
Aldous Huxley, who wrote:
"The harder we try with the conscious will to do
something, the less we shall succeed.
"Proficiency and the results of proficiency come only
to those who have learned the paradoxical art of doing and not doing, or
combining relaxation with activity, of letting go as a person so that the
immanent and transcendent unknown quantity may take hold."
Aldous Huxley coined the term 'The Law of Reversed Effort'
to explain that the harder we try with the conscious will to do something, the
less we shall succeed.
Imagine your work, family, health and play as your four
wheels - how much traction is each wheel getting? Are your tyres wearing
evenly, are you holding the race line, is your car in good shape to last the
distance, or are you just flat out focusing on being first into the next
corner, as though your happiness depended on it?
That’s nice, you might think, but how does that translate to
real life? How can Huxley’s law of reversed effort be seen not as an ideology
but as a practical guide? The fact is that “not doing” is fundamental to the
nature of many tasks. The problem with a lot of philosophy of this kind is that
it leaves us no better off than before. Here are just a few examples.
A common example is falling asleep: Sometimes when you can’t fall asleep it helps to stop trying: count sheep, read a book, focus on your breath, etc. Likewise, golf pros instruct their pupils that they must relax to hit the ball well — too much effort ruins the swing. Playing piano requires relaxed effort, as does shooting free throws.
Leo Tolstoy described this concept perfectly in Anna Karenina where he describes a day of labor undertaken by Konstantin Levin, a member of the upper crust of Russian society, as he mows hay with a scythe alongside his peasants:
“A change began to come over his work, which gave him immense satisfaction. In the midst of his toil there were moments during which he forgot what he was doing, and it came all easy to him, and at those same moments his row was almost as smooth and well cut as Tit’s. But so soon as he recollected what he was doing, and began trying to do better, he was at once conscious of all the difficulty of his task, and the row was badly mown.”
– Leo Tolstoy, Anna Karenina
people who are desperate to get married, but they don’t get any candidate for that purpose. On the other side, I see people who have absolutely no urge or plan to marry, yet these people have plenty of suggestions in their circle. I see people who desperately tried to pass the CSS exam with various attempts, yet they failed. And then I came across people who were not much obsessive and cracked the exam on their first attempt easily. Weird!
Universe has a weird algorithm. We often get things when we stop looking for them or when we let go. Our subconscious part of the mind takes anything we feed it. So focusing on what we want or desire will only reinforce to our subconscious mind that we currently lack that thing. So if we focus on wanting more money, this tells our subconscious mind that we are broke. Such a mindset will keep us broke.
Technical skills: When learning a new sport or skill, you must
understand the technique. You go through the motions, ticking off steps in your
head and eventually succeeding. But there comes the point when overthinking is
detrimental. It’s probably why your favourite team are rubbish at penalty
shoot-outs.
Stress and anxiety: We all get stressed about things. All
jobs involve bottlenecks and crunch points. Life has good days and bad days.
But when we obsessively run things over in our heads, we make anxiety worse.
There is a reason “mindfulness” is such a breakaway phenomenon, and Headspace
is a $250-million business. Stepping away, taking a breath, and doing nothing is
good for you.
Conversations: When it comes to how we talk to people, less
really is more. A lousy conversation involves you talking too much, and your
“listening” consists of simply waiting to speak again. Yet research shows that
active listening gives more “conversational satisfaction” and leaves the
partner feeling more understood.
Defined in the most simple way dark triad is the combination of predispositions which include non-sensitiveness (for
others) and covetousness, and relate to the model of behavior by which is taken the advantage over others,
exploitation the others because of his selfish interests (Jones & Paulhus, 2011)
Most people assume that others have the same moral code as themselves. We assume that others agree it is wrong to lie, steal, and manipulate others for our own gain. It can come as a shock, then, when you cross paths with someone who shatters that perception. In some cases, this person may be a narcissistic sociopath—a person with a unique combination of traits that causes them to create destruction in their personal and professional lives.
“Their interests aren’t organizational. Their
interests are for themselves,” said Birgit Schyns of Neoma Business School.
Schyns coauthored the article with Barbara Wisse of the University of Groningen
and Durham University Business School, and Stacey Sanders of the University of
Groningen.
The Dark Triad
Three types of personality profiles make up the points of
this dark triangle—psychopathy, Machiavellianism, and narcissism. Psychologists
Paulhus and Williams coined the term "dark triad" in 2002 when they
found that these three personalities tend to run together and cause trouble in
relationships.
Machiavellianism
Niccolò Machiavelli was a 15th-century Italian politician
famous for advising rulers to use deception and deviousness to maintain power.
Nowadays, his name is synonymous with a person who schemes and manipulates
people. People with this trait are strategic in their relationships, selecting
relationships with people they can use for personal social status or wealth.
In a self-report questionnaire of the dark triad personality
traits, items for measuring Machiavellianism include:
"It’s wise to keep track of information that you can
use against people later."
"Whatever it takes, you must get the important people
on your side."
"I use insincere flattery to get my way."
Psychopathy
When we hear the term “psychopath,” we tend to think of
serial killers à la Charles Manson and Ed Kemper. But psychopathy is a
spectrum, and we're all on it. People who have a high level of psychopathy have
low empathy for others, are callous in their actions, and tend to be reckless
and thrill-seeking.
Psychopaths might agree with statements like:
"Payback needs to be quick and nasty."
"People often say I’m out of control."
"I enjoy having sex with people I hardly know."
Of course, this is not to say that everyone who participates
in casual sex with strangers has high levels of psychopathy. A psychopathic
portrait would also include many hints of high risk-taking together with a lack
of empathy.

Narcissism
Narcissus was a beautiful hunter in Greek mythology who fell
in love with his own reflection. But now, when we say that someone is
narcissistic, we mean something more than just vanity. Someone with high levels
of narcissism feels entitled to adoration, power, and high status, so much so
that if they don’t get these things, they may lash out.
They might agree with statements like:
"Many group activities are dull without me."
"I have a natural talent for influencing people."
"I like being the center of attention."
If they don’t get the attention they crave, they might, for example, lie about how many gifts they received for their birthday.
Based on the ominous name, you might think people would know
to avoid those with the dark triad. Ironically, we’re often attracted to people
who have a smidge of psychopathy or a hint of dominance, especially because
people with the dark triad tend to be good at making themselves appear more
attractive.
Dark Triad Relationship Patterns
There are five destructive patterns you can take note of to
recognize people high on the continuum of dark triad traits.
1. Lying
Researchers have found that those higher on the dark triad
continuum lie more often and think of themselves as good at deception. More
specifically, Machiavellianism is associated with telling more white lies,
while narcissism is associated with lying about popularity. The most troubling
are those with high levels of psychopathy, who are more likely to lie for no
reason at all.
When you catch a partner with these traits in a lie, you
might begin to sense that something doesn’t add up. These erosions of trust,
whether big or small, can start to chip away at your sense of security.
2. Infidelity
It’s well-known that those high on the dark triad scale are
more likely to cheat on romantic partners. Given their penchant for
impulsivity, lack of care for others’ feelings, and ability to lie easily and
often, this isn’t surprising. What’s more interesting is which traits in the
dark triad lead to which types of infidelity outcomes.
When people with higher levels of psychopathy cheat, it
tends to lead to a breakup. But when people who are a more Machiavellian cheat,
they can manage to keep the relationship going. This might be because their
strategic approach to everything lets them fly under the radar. Even when they
get caught, they’re better able to manipulate their partner and may get off
scot-free. In fact, you might find yourself wondering if you’re the bad guy
when the boyfriend you just caught sexting with someone else says you’re the
one driving him away by being too overbearing. Don’t fall for it! This is
classic Machiavelli.
3. Jealousy and revenge
Those with the dark triad tend to have higher levels of
preventive jealousy—that is, feeling jealous before they’ve been given reason
to—than the average person.
One study found that those with the dark triad are not only
more likely to have cheated on a partner but also expect to be cheated on. If
they do find themselves in an unfaithful relationship; they’re more likely than
the average person to want to take revenge, like shouting at their partner or
spreading a rumor about them.
Interestingly, the dark triad women in this study said that
even though they would want revenge, they wouldn’t necessarily end the
relationship if their partner cheated. This speaks to wanting emotional control
over their partner for control's sake rather than doing hurtful things only as
an impulsive reaction.
4. Superficial relationships
Given their lack of true emotional devotion, people high on
the dark triad scale doesn’t tend to choose serious, committed relationships.
Now there’s nothing wrong with flings, dating for fun,
friends-with-benefits, and other not-so-serious “romances.” At different times
in our lives, we have different needs, and most of us have probably had
relationships that were never meant for a serious commitment.
But people with more dark triad traits tend to make a habit
of emotionally shallow relationships, both romantically and with friends.
Specifically, narcissism tends to go hand-in-hand with one-night-stands, and
psychopathy tends to go with booty calls.
In friendships, Machiavellians look to befriend those with
elite social status. Narcissists like to roll with a good-looking squad. Men with psychopathic traits are just like friends who can play wingmen and hook up with potential mates.
5. Relationships that don’t last
With all these not-so-glowing findings to recommend them,
it’s no surprise that people with high dark triad traits don’t tend to have
long-lasting relationships.
Even if they wanted to stay in a long-term relationship,
people with the dark triad have a hard time making it last, perhaps because
they are simply hard to get along with. The researchers who first coined the
“dark triad” term noticed immediately that agreeableness—warmth, friendliness,
tact—is the one thing most people with these traits lack.
The dark triad traits have gray gradations, and if you
find yourself in a relationship with someone low on those scales, it might
simply end with hurt feelings. But someone high on the rungs of psychopathy,
narcissism, and Machiavellianism might cause you serious damage.

“If you can avoid it, don’t hire them. If you have them, don’t promote them,” Schyns said.
How to get out of a relationship with a dark triad personality
It can be scary to realize that your partner has dark triad traits. At the same time, it might feel like a morbid relief to put the pieces together. Either way, if you find yourself finally understanding why you feel insecure, emotionally spent, or like you’ve been gaslit, it’s a good first step to changing your situation.
To safely get yourself out of a relationship with someone with dark triad traits, here are good places to start:
1. Surround yourself with supportive people
People with high dark triad levels are known for playing mind games and undercutting your confidence. Bolster your defenses with people you can trust to be in your corner who will believe what you say and offer you a safe emotional haven.
2. Get your affairs in order
In some tragic cases, people have lost their financial resources, independence to move around, or other important safety mechanisms during a messy breakup.
Ideally, you'll want to secure:
An independent bank account
A safe place to physically go to
A private place to communicate with your supportive people
Anything else you may need to stay safe in case the other person acts recklessly
3. Make a clean break
Like Dua Lipa said, "Don't pick up the phone ... Don't let him in ... Don't be his friend."
You don’t need to keep justifying why you're leaving, especially if the other person is trying to excuse away your concerns or gaslight your feelings.
Commit to a clean break without giving in to crocodile tears that can seem convincing. Don’t linger in a shared living space. Don’t bargain. You don’t need to keep justifying why you're leaving, especially if the other person is trying to excuse away your concerns or gaslight your feelings.
4. Be compassionate with yourself
It’s so hard to be in a relationship (and to break up) with someone with dark triad traits. It’s not a sign of weakness or foolishness on your part that you got sucked in! Be kind to yourself. In extreme situations where safety is a concern, make sure you use your resources, including law enforcement, legal representation, and therapy.
It’s not a sign of weakness or foolishness on your part that you got sucked in!
You deserve to be respected and loved in a relationship, not lied to or manipulated. Now that you know the signs of the dark triad, you know how to spot a bad relationship in the making and get out before you get too deeply into it. And if you're already in it, don't be afraid to let go. You've got this!
Thanks
