Scholarships in PhD in Nanoscience (organic/inorganic synthesis, characterization, device fabrication), Quantum Physics/Chemistry, Computational Physics/Chemistry, in POSTECH Korea

We are interested in recruiting excellent graduate students particularly from foreign countries.
http://csm.postech.ac.kr/opportunities/index.html
If one is eligible to be admitted to this university, I will support him/her financially.
To this end, please send me your resume. I will reply when you are considered to be eligible.
If you are highly qualified, we may support as a research assistant even prior to the admission to the Ph.D. program.

For a Ph.D. candidate, the wage this year is 1,180 K won per month (14,160 K won per year).
The salary tends to increase every year.
One needs to pay 600 K won/month (~7,200 K won per year) as stipend. However, one will get a nearly free dormitory room (33 K won/month; 400 K won/year) within five minutes walking distance from the office.
Thus, one does not need a car and does not pay the car insurance.
Each meal costs 2.2 K won in cafeteria (or ~2,400 K won per year). Then, one may save most of the remaining
(over 4,500 K won or about $4,000), unless you need to buy special things. At present, $1 is 1.1-1.2 K won.
Practically, most foreign people here save a substantial amount of money. If one is in difficult condition, we may increase the salary, but this is done very rarely.

Outstanding students would be qualified for POSCO Asian Fellowship, if one is an Asian.

In my center, postdoctoral fellows receive ~29,000 K won per year, research associates, ~3,300 K won, senior research associates and research assistant/associate professors, 4,000-52,000 K won.

Applicants should submit the official English test score (minimum score: PBT 550, CBT 213, IBT 79, ITP 550, IELTS 6, TOEIC 800, TEPS 680) except for six native English speakers (Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, UK, USA).

We synthesize and characterize novel functional molecular systems which we design based on theoretical predictions using quantum theoretical calculations and molecular dynamics simulations.
We are also interested in fabricating nanodevices, and nano sensors.

Research Fields: Nanoscience (organic/inorganic synthesis, characterization, device fabrication),
Quantum Physics/Chemistry, Computational Physics/Chemistry

If one is interested in our graduate program, please send me one's CV and a copy of one's transcripts.

Seoul National University , SNU is one the top ranked university in the world. You can check its ranking in the world. It is in to 50 and 100 universities in the world.
So, must try for the admission here.

You can get admission in SNU on scholarship as SNU 's professors have many funds and can support you.

But you have to email the professors in a way which i will explain below, if you get confirmation from professor , that he may support you , then you can continue there.

One bottleneck : The application fee about 75 $ , which can be pay by using credit card, if not then make a bank draft as mentioned in the guide.http://www.useoul.edu/upload/admission/Spring.pdf?7c2a12d5493f633a998f0bf8f7efa5ca

Other Bottleneck: English scores such as IELTS and TOEFL. Although you can apply on the basis of English proficiency scores, but it reduces your chances of getting admissions

There is a drawback or some problem with this kind of professor scholarship : If you are successful in getting funds/scholarship from professor, then you have to work hard for publications as if you do not have publications or results, then you may have serious problems regarding funding/scholarship. So, be sure before applying it that you are ready to work hard.

 Tips to get professor scholarship

Let me explain to you the easiest way to get admission and scholarship (both fee and living expenses) is first of all, you should search relevant professors of your choice and research interest. Then you should make a tailored made CV according to the interest of those relevant professors and send him/her that CV along with a short email stating your introduction and show your interest that you want to do master/Ph.D under his/her supervision.
If a professor shows interest it means almost you have 99% chances that your admission is confirmed.
So, first of all, you should try to find "Faculty" => Professors profiles on the university website.
You can find the respective faculties in the list.
Then what you have to do is:
1. Read all your major professors profiles, research interests and projects. (You can also find the research interests of professors by finding on Google their published research papers)
2. Make your CV research oriented and also easily readable and good looking. (Also according to the professor you choose to apply. Relate your previous work plus final year project with that professor's work and show him your interest in his work)
Important Note for Electronics plus Computer majors ( In Korea, professors like if you are good in programming languages and it is good if you have distinction in programming skills and you can show them)
3. Write an email. (Please be short in writing email, as professor has not so much times to read it fully just write main but few sentences)
4. Send your email and CV to as many professors as you can (keep in mind only interested professors may reply you, so don't be disappointed)
Note: If you are interested in any specific professor and he/she does not reply you then you must contact him/her by" telephone". Please keep in mind that many professors do not reply, so in that case, you must contact him/her by telephone.
IMPORTANT:
1. Maybe if you face some trouble while opening website then please install "Korean" language tools.
2. Deadlines and time is very important.
3. Try to get any English proficiency certificate. Sometime it increases chances of scholarships.
If any updates, I will let you know.
4. Once the ball starts rolling (getting in contact with professor) Come up with a project plan or SOP (Statement of purpose, Research plan) that what you are going to research about. Indulge yourself in writing new project proposals if required.
FEW MORE THINGS
 Professor scholarship
This solely depends on professor and university does not give you money in this case. These are easy to get but hard to maintain sometimes, because sometimes if professor is not happy with your performance, then he can give you financial problems. So be ready to do hard work.
University scholarships
University scholarships are few and hard to get , but good than professor scholarship as in this case you will not be depended on money by professor. But when you apply for this scholarship, if you contact the professor before in the way as mentioned above, then you have better chance to get this scholarship. Although university scholarships mostly do not require professors recommendations but if you are successful to get one before applying, then it is good chance for you to get that scholarship
That is all for the tips

Also undergraduate students can apply. they can see this link but it is difficult to get  undergraduate scholarships, but they can try.

One most important Thing
Do not stop trying and do the best

Best Regards
Waqar

Happiness wave study reveals happy pensioners, and debunks middle-age blues myth

Happiness levels over a lifetime in Australia, Britain and Germany.

(Medical Xpress) -- People are at their happiest at retirement age and their most miserable in their geriatric years, a new study has found.
The study into the ‘happiness wave', conducted by Dr Tony Beatton of Queensland University of Technology and Professor Paul Frijters of The University of Queensland, has revealed how happiness changes over a lifetime for people living in Australia, Germany and Britain.
“We all strive towards happiness, but we wanted to find out at what point in life we actually reach this goal,” said Dr Beatton.
The same study has debunked the idea of the middle-age blues, blaming an over-representation of unhappy respondents in previous surveys.
Collecting data from more than 60,000 people in Australia, Britain and Germany, the pair found people were happiest as they entered retirement age (55-75), and most miserable close to death (80-90).
For a representative 18-year-old with a happiness level of 7 on a 10-point scale, the peak happiness age was found to be 65 in Australia, reaching 7.3, compared with Britain (7.2 at aged 70), and Germany (7 at 65).
“Our interpretation of these findings is that individuals over 55 no longer have unrealistic expectations of what their life will be like and simply enjoy their reasonable health and wealth, leading to a marked surge in happiness. As their health starts to deteriorate after 75, their happiness plunges,” said Dr Beatton.
The study considered figures from three surveys – the Household, Income and Labour Dynamics in Australia (HILDA) survey of 16,000 people in Australia, the British Household Panel Survey (BHPS) of 25,000 in England and the German Socioeconomic Panel Survey (GSOEP) of 20,600 people in Germany.
It found in Australia, happiness peaks at 7.3 by age 65 but then drops increasingly fast as death approaches, with happiness levels at 6.6 at the age of 90 and over.
In Britain, the figures were similar, with the happiness peak slightly later at age 70, and the peak itself not as high as for Australians, reaching only 7.2, then declining to 6.3 over the age of 90.
“Life in old age is clearly relatively better in Australia than the UK, perchance because of the better weather, more generous public pensions, and more space for the grey nomads to roam,” said Dr Beatton.
In Germany, happiness peaks at 7 at age 65, preceded by a reduction in happiness during early adulthood. A sharp drop occurs after age 75. Over 90, happiness level drop to around 5.8.
“Life appears to simply get worse and worse in Germany after the age of 18,” said Dr Beatton.
“Also, it appears mainly miserable middle-aged Germans respond to the GSOEP, and they become more honest and miserable as they answer the questions year after year, leaving problems with the data.”
Previous studies appear to have been hampered by having relatively more middle-aged people in their data than in the actual population.
“Happy people in middle age are busy and don't have time to participate in lengthy surveys, while more miserable people tend to keep responding to the survey. This led previous studies to erroneously show high degrees of unhappiness in middle-age,” said Dr Beatton.
“If you follow the same people over time however, you do not see this drop in happiness level when people get into their 40s, hence no middle-age ‘U-shaped blues' pattern can be found, particularly not in Australia or Britain,” he said.
The study has since been published in the Journal of Economic Behaviour and Organisation.
