Science jobs from Functional Genomics Center Zurich (FGCZ): The Functional Genomics Center Zurich (FGCZ) is a joint interdisciplinary research and training center of the ETH Zurich (ETH) and the University of Zurich (UZH). We are seeking to fill the position of a h1. Bioinformatics Expert Next Generation Sequencing
to strengthen the bioinformatics team and support the analysis of next generation sequencing data generated in the various interdisciplinary research projects. The successful candidate will be involved in the analysis, processing, and management of sequencing data from Ion Torrent, AB SOLiD 5500xl, Roche/454 FLX, and PacBio RS platforms. In addition, the expert will also participate in building customized data analysis pipelines and in the scientific development of new approaches for data analysis.
The ideal candidate has a university degree in bioinformatics, computer science, physics, or a related field. Candidates with a PhD and publications are welcome to apply. Familiarity with the management and analysis of large-scale genomics datasets will be considered an advantage. In particular experience with sequencing data (next generation or Sanger -based sequence assembly and -mapping) or other functional genomics data (e.g. microarray data) is a plus. Basic skills with the LINUX/UNIX operating system are essential. Furthermore, a strong background in at least one scripting or programming language (Perl, Python, Java) is mandatory. Experience in R/Bioconductor and/or web programming will be considered an advantage. The ability to work independently is a prerequisite, as is the ability to effectively interact with the research and technical staff of the center and of external research groups in a team-oriented manner. Advanced knowledge of English is essential, as this is the working language of the center. Knowledge of German is helpful.
